It seems Labour Councillors in the rest of Merseyside see the tunnel tolls as the perfect tax: lots of ready cash coming in to fund transport projects in their areas but without most of their voters having to pay it.

Wirral, on the other hand, is faced with higher tolls for the ‘pleasure’ of having to drive through Liverpool.

Presumably, the Labour Party and, in particular Angela Eagle, considered all this when they voted in favour of the Mersey Tunnels Bill.
