Spent most of the day sorting out paperwork left over from the campaign and talking to colleagues following last night’s group meeting. The Conservative Group is now the largest on Wirral but still 10 seats short of having a majority. Council committee places have yet to be sorted although the existing Cabinet (Labour and Lib Dem Councillors) continues until the next Council meeting.
I’ve emailed the following and asked for meetings/briefings to bring me up to date:
- Jim Wilkie, Deputy Chief Executive, for an outline of how the Council has changed the way it is run since I was last a councillor in 1999-2004
- Inspector Kolokotroni, Moreton Police Station, for a briefing on current policing/crime issues
- David Green, Director of Technical Services, to discuss road safety and traffic management
Also confirmed to the Sandbrook Community Association that I will be attending their meeting next week and confirmed with the residents association on Leasowe Road flats that I will meet him, time and date to be agreed.

Ian, you do know that getting a straight answer out of some of our beloved council officials is like getting blood out of a stone?!
If you do have a meeting penciled in with the infamous David Green, could you ask him why Wirral’s roads are in such a bad condition, and why they saw fit to waste £1 million on the traffic lights at Arrowe Park which have done nothing to cut congestion?
Hopefully, you won’t have to be dealing with him for too much longer.
