Under and over…

Today was the chance for people to walk through the Mersey Tunnel.  It was quite a weird experience.  The ‘march’ was proceded by a band which kept everyone in step, almost and there was a great atmosphere.  The staff at Merseytravel had clearly worked really hard to make sure the whole event was a success.

But walking in a large tunnel, which is usually chocca with a cars, is still strange.  Phil Redmond was there, as was Mark Dowd, Chairman of Merseytravel.

While he is ‘Labour’, Mark doesn’t seem isn’t blind to reality (unlike his colleagues in Wirral) and, party politics aside, has a genuine desire to do the best for Merseytravel.  He’s a pretty sharp operator, like his Chief Executive Neil Scales.  Also there (it was one of those kind of events) was Steve Rotheram.  Labour Councillor for Fazakerley and Lord Mayor of Liverpool.  I worked with Steve for a while at the Learning and Skills Council, when he was the construction skills guru and I was the media and PR manager.

The Mersey Tunnel Users Association were also present, highlighting the continuing abomination of the toll tax.

When I got back to Wirral, via Leasowe Station, I called in to a resident of Bullrush Drive, concerned about the shrubs in the grassed area and then on to a resident of MacKenzie Road, who’d contacted us in response to our door-to-door survey on Thursday about grass cutting.
