RIP school dental screening (1918-2007)

20 08 2008

Yesterday’s Daily Post reveals that Wirral’s Primary Care Trust has axed the child dental screening programme in the borough’s non-special schools.  The dental screening programme was a valuable way for the NHS to pick up on ay child dental problems early on.  It’s a service that pre-dates the NHS – it was introduced in 1918 and survived until last year.

Well done to Jeff Clarke, the prospective Conservative candidate in Wirral South, for exposing this cut.  The PCT must now tell us what alternatives they are offering instead, particularly as kids in Wirral have above-average levels of dental decay.
