Tonight, there was a meeting of the Conservative Group to plan what we are doing at next week’s meeting of the full Council (Monday, 6.15pm at Wallasey Town Hall) to agree a package of issues, not least the Labour-led cuts to services, such as school crossing patrols…
Although the Conservatives are the largest Party in the Town Hall, the Council is actually run by a Labour-led Cabinet, propped up by the Lib Dems.
At the Council meeting, there will also be matters raised by the political parties (called ‘Notices of Motion’ – no laughing at the back!) Among the items for discussion are:
- A bicycle recycling scheme (by the Lib Dems)
- Merseyside Police Stations (by the Lib Dems)
- Audit Commission findings in a report on Adult Social Care (Conservatives)
- Supporting local communities (Conservatives)
- National Minimum Wage (by Labour, in an attempt to embarrass the Conservatives)
- Global Financial Crisis (by Labour, to ‘big up’ Gordon)
- Gurkha Rights (by Labour but taking a pop at Gordon)
You can make your own mind up which actually have any bearing on what is happening in Wirral and how we, as elected Councillors, can make a difference.
