Action at last on road safety at Sacred Heart School
Responding to our October Newsline, a resident of Fairmead Road in Moreton contacted Steve to see if anything could be done to improve road safety around Sacred Heart Primary School on Danger Lane. I met with a Highways Officer and had a number of emails on this.
Yesterday, I received the good news that the Council has agreed to install a number of parking regulations around the school. You can see what is proposed by clicking on this link. Steve has now written to residents living nearby to ask for their views.
These proposals are part of the biggest School Road Safety programme ever seen in Wirral. I have spoken to the Cabinet Member, Cllr. Lesley Rennie, and she is determined to do as much as possible to tackle Wirral’s poor levels of road safety, especially around schools. Cllr. Rennie has already signed off plans to recruit more lollipop ladies. The ideal solution for many the problems around primary schools would be for more children to walk or cycle to school instead.
A few years ago, we ran a campaign, with mums and dads from the school, to improve the crossing on Hoylake Road. That crossing was upgraded to a pedestrian-controlled crossing.
