Dear Tesco…

Wirral-20120125-00011

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a resident of Knutsford Road in Moreton.  He was almost run over by a driver coming out of the Tesco Express store at Moreton Cross.  While there will always be drivers who don’t show consideration for pedestrians and other drivers, I wanted to check that the traffic scheme introduced when the store was built was working.

Yesterday, I met with an officer from Wirral Borough Council’s Technical Services Department, who specialises in road safety.  He had also witnessed vehicles entering the store car park via the exit, in order to avoid the roundabout.  During our meeting there, he suggested that tesco install clearer signage at the exit and also agreed to install a bollard to stop traffic cutting across the corner of the pavement.

I don’t have a contact at Tesco so, today, I have ‘Tweeted’ them to see if I can pursue the matter of better signs and other measures they may consider to improve road safety for their customers, and my residents…

P.S. During my meeting, I also checked on the progress of the planned yellow lines outside the Shell Garage further up Hoylake Road and also on Upton Road, at the junction with Glebelands Road.  I’m pleased to advise that both are in the next phase for action, sometime in the next 6-8 weeks.
