Personal statement:

There are three main reasons why I am standing as a councillor. I believe that it is important to be involved in the local community and making an effort to improve the area where you live is essential. The experience of helping people in my previous job at Vauxhalls and working on behalf of others is one which has influenced my decision to stand as a councillor. The manner in which the Labour run council has depleted the services and facilities with its Strategic Asset Review has given me the desire to get more involved locally.

For 8 years, while at Vauxhalls, I had the experience of representing people in difficult circumstances, and to help express their views and negotiating on their behalf. I always have and still do get involved in the local community.

Steve’s background

  • I have lived in the Moreton and Leasowe area all my life and still do – off Cornflower Way, near Leasowe Station.
  • Age 37 and married with 3 children, all attending local schools
  • Member of the Friends of Leasowe Recreation Centre
  • I work in Moreton as a youth worker, which is very rewarding and enjoyable job. This is a career change after taking redundancy from Vauxhall Motors in Ellesmere Port.
  • I have been a governor at Eastway Primary school for the last 8 years
  • Also involved in the running of the junior section at New Brighton Rugby club, dealing mainly with the raising of essential funds

 Your issues

  1. Fighting the closure of any local libraries or leisure centres
  2. Pushing the council to do more to tackle the ‘everyday’ problems of litter, dog fouling and and vandalism around Moreton and Leasowe
  3. Work with local residents to lobby for improved road safety and opposed to the sacking of local lollipop ladies
  4. Working with any resident or organisation in the Leasowe and Moreton to improve our community, regardless of Party politics
